Route description
Panoramic Bridge between Barbiano and Sant’ Ingenuino (Saubach)
Suspended high above the Gander Stream, this spectacular panoramic bridge stretches 120 meters in length and rises 55 meters above the ground. It offers breathtaking views over the Isarco Valley and up toward the impressive Barbiano Waterfalls. With a width of three meters, the bridge is also stroller-friendly. Stop in the middle and you might even feel the gentle sway beneath your feet.
The walk starts in the village of Barbiano, known for its famously leaning church tower. From the center of town, simply follow the signposts marked “Panoramabrücke.” A pedestrian path leads southwest along the road toward Sant’ Ingenuino (Saubach), safely separated from traffic by a fence, and offering sweeping views of the Isarco Valley and the Sciliar massif. After about 15 minutes on foot, you’ll reach the bridge.
On the far side, you can continue walking to Sant’ Ingenuino, but please note that the pedestrian path runs directly beside the road—extra care is needed if you’re walking with small children.
Once there, hungry little hikers can refuel at a local guesthouse such as the Saubacherhof, where traditional South Tyrolean cuisine is served on a sunny terrace with a view.
To return, simply retrace your steps back to Barbiano.
If you’re up for a longer hike, head from the village to the Barbiano Waterfalls. Please note that this trail is not suitable for strollers and takes about two hours.
