Route description
Your journey through time begins with the Big Bang and the first life forms on Earth, marked by wooden posts forming a timeline. From there, you step into the Stone Age, explore Bronze Age tents, whizz down a spectacular slide from a Roman-era tower, cross medieval-style suspension bridges, make music like Walther von der Vogelweide – and finally, take off in an airplane into the modern age.
The Legian 993 Adventure Trail in Laion is still relatively new and not as well-known as other themed trails in South Tyrol – but it’s an absolute hidden gem. Why is it called Legian 993? That’s a mystery you’ll need to solve yourself – by cracking a riddle along the trail.
You can park in the village center of Laion. From there, follow the sign for “Vogelweider Rundweg” along a paved road that later turns into a forest path. Signs for the Adventure Trail appear a bit further along. Walk through meadows and follow the sign “Rundweg Kasserol,” where you’ll spot a small plaque marked “Legian 993.” After passing a small pond on your right, you’ll reach the official starting point with an info board. Keep to the left and follow the path along the meadow – and you’ll arrive at the first stop: the Earth’s creation timeline.
The trail is generally suitable for strollers, but in the forested sections it can get a bit bumpy and steep – so it’s best to have two people pushing at those spots.
