Route description
The hike around the Small Monticolo Lake is especially beautiful in spring and autumn, while in summer, the lake is a popular swimming spot. You can park your car at the paid parking lot above the lakes. From there, it’s about a 20-minute descent through the forest, following the signs to the Small Monticolo Lake (trail 1A). The path is mostly wide and easily accessible, even with a stroller.
We arrive at the lido of the Small Monticolo Lake, a great swimming spot in summer, but we continue along the trail, exploring the nature experience path, which features numerous informational boards about local wildlife and plant species. Here, the trail becomes bumpier and steeper in some sections, so a sturdy, all-terrain stroller is recommended.
There is also the option to extend the hike and continue to the Big Monticolo Lake, as the two lakes are connected by a hiking trail. However, we usually prefer the shorter, more leisurely route. Along the way, you’ll find several small natural beaches, perfect for a break.
The circular hike around the lake takes about 30 minutes, plus 20 minutes each way through the forest from the parking lot. It’s an ideal hike for those short on time who just want to immerse themselves in nature.
